www.pirate-radio.co.ukIf this has whetted your appetite for on-line scanning of the airwaves, be sure to check out the list of net-based radio stations maintained by the boffins at MIT. They currently hotlink to in excess of 300 Web Sites that 'bitstream' data. Closer to home, "100% not commercial" is a perfect description for London's newest Internet-based radio station. And this is a site that's broadcasting purely to the WWW. It divides neatly into two channels - Interface and The Global Channel. Every evening of every week, Interface provides at least six hours of garage, house, techno and drum & bass slots from Djs including Norman Jay, Ignition Music, Botchitt and Scarper Records and others. I'm personally bookmarking this site for Friday at 1500 to check out Rocket from Worm Interface recordings in the mix. Interface is probably the most content packed of all the WWW dance radio sites, although it is a little lacking on textual backup. But click over to the The Global Channel and you'll find a more human angle to Internet broadcasting. It's the first regular Net outside-broadcast, which started back on Sunday 20 July, designed to "herald the next stage of pirate-radio.co.uk's quest to develop public awareness and perception of electronic music culture". Every Sunday the team broadcast direct from the Global Cafe in Golden Square, London. So check out this Web site, or stop by there in person.
